Abstract
The Open Library (OL) (<https://openlibrary.org/>), a project of the Internet Archive (<https://archive.org/>), embraces the philosophical concept of “open to all” in its most literal sense, providing free access to 20 million bibliographic records, 1.7 million scanned versions of books, and 200,000 e-books for limited borrowing. Its openness also extends to welcoming any member of the global public to participate in creating OL content, including adding to existing OL bibliographic records and developing applications to enhance the OL site.
